Quickstart

From nothing to your first scan in about a minute. This is the short path. Install and verify has the full per-OS detail and the steps to check a download cryptographically.

1. Get it

Download the build for your platform from the latest release.

Builds are honestly unsigned for now, so macOS and Windows will warn on first launch. That means the OS cannot confirm who built it, not that anything is wrong. Getting past the first-launch warning walks through it, or you can verify the download yourself first.

2. Run one scan

Desktop app: open PromptDust, read the one-screen explanation, and click Scan this computer.

Command line:

promptdust scan

You will get a list of the AI tools on your machine, every store each one keeps, and an exposure rating for each.

3. Read it

Results are grouped by tool. Each store shows where it lives, what kind of data it tends to hold, and how exposed it is right now. The exposure rating ranks what to look at first. It is not a pass-or-fail verdict.

Reading your results explains the exposure levels and the amplifiers that raise them.

What happens to your data

Nothing leaves your machine. The scan makes no network calls, reads no conversation content, and changes no files. If you export a report, it stays local and it is sensitive, because it maps where your AI data lives. See Privacy and threat model.
